The Five Biggest Differences Between Prague And Budapest

The first major difference between Prague and Budapest is the level of service. In Prague, people in the service industries are like government workers, only doing what they have to. In Budapest, the service is more friendly and genuine, more what tourists will be expecting.

The second difference is city make-up. Prague is primarily known for its spectacular architecture, while Budapest is a more nature-loving city with parks on every block.

The third difference may be a bit off-putting. It is well-known that Budapest has a problem with people urinating in the streets and so the smell of urine in this city is often inescapable. This is not the case in Prague in most areas.

The Czech city of Prague is known primarily for its beer, while the Hungarian wines are widely prized throughout Europe. Depending on which beverage one prefers, that may influence the decision to visit one city or the other.

In general, Prague is considered to be a lot more modern in its outlook and the atmosphere of the city. Budapest, while possessing some amazing sites, still has an older feel and some of the culture may be a shock to more modern-minded tourists.

A lot has changed in the Ukraine from the days of broadband internet and well water to a thriving society of well-educated people. If you never considered vacationing here, we’ve got a few great reasons why you should put it back on the drawing board for next year’s trip
The Architecture: There’s a lot of history here and you’ll be amazed by the juxtaposition of old verses new everywhere from Kiev and beyond. If you want to take in some culture, Ukraine is a great place.
Cheap Costs: The cost of living is low here and there are tons of hotels and restaurants just waiting to give you a great deal. Travel isn’t the number one industry here yet so you can still get a wonderful rate if you plan ahead.
Chernobyl: If you haven’t heard, they recently opened up Chernobyl to visitors for the first time in about 60 years. If you dare, take yourself on one of the earth’s weirdest day trips but it’s probably still best to wear protective gear and leave your children behind for the day.

If you want an unforgettable experience, make sure to visit the five most beautiful cathedrals in the Ukraine. The St. George Cathedral located in Kiev is home to the Icon of the Virgin. The St. George Cathedral has nine chambers, and is one of the most beautiful and magnificent cathedrals in the Ukraine. The Latin Cathedral, located in Old Town of western Ukraine is a work of wonder and fascinating historical landmark; it is one of the just two churches that wasn’t closed or subjected to the Muscovite Patriarchate during the Soviet rule. The St. Nicolas Roman Catholic Cathedral, also located in Kiev was the second Roman Catholic cathedral to be built in Kiev, and belonged to the Latin Rite Catholic community. It was built in Gothic type construction and has some of the most vivid detail of all the cathedrals in the Ukraine. Kiev Pechersk Lavra also located in Kiev was named number twelve in the top seventy-nine most beautiful churches and cathedrals in the world. The Kiev Pechersk Lavra contains several architectural monuments including bell-towers, cathedrals, and underground cave systems. Last but not least, you will want to stop by the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kiev, also noted for its beauty. This cathedral is one of the city’s best known landmarks and also includes the museum of the National Preserve “Sophia of Kiev” which is responsible for the preservation of the Catholic complex, and four other historical landmarks.

Ukrainian cuisine is a reflection of the fertile agricultural land which it’s people use to grown their own vegetables for soups and salads. Winter is a time when the temperatures can drop to minus 25 degrees and this is when meat becomes the country’s priority.

Ukrainian food shares a lot of similarity in dishes with that of Russia. Some of the most popular shared dishes consist of pelmeni (a type of ravioli filled with meat or mushrooms), blinchiki (sweet or savoury pancakes), vareniki (dumplings with cabbage or mashed potatoes inside), and ikra (salmon caviar). Most meals are served with a bowl of borshch or some black bread on the side.I found some more information here.

The Ukraine is now a place where international as well as domestic ingredients can be found in many supermarkets. It’s not unusual at all to find the incorporation of western recipes into their cooking. No matter what changes have taken place over time, the Ukrainian people will always be proud of the food they offer.

Among the most commonly served ‘everyday drinks’ found in the Ukraine would be tea, coffee and juice. Water is a problem as tap water is not fit for consumption even after purification. Kyivans drink tea with lemon, berries and herbs.

The variety of alcoholic drinks available is vast and unique. Many of the recipes by the Ukrainian people have been around since ancient times. The desire to create different tastes led to the creation of a multitude of new collections of wines and brands of strong drinks. Home-made wines are popular and generally made from grapes, berries and fruit grown locally. One of the finer wines made locally called “Zolotiy Vil” would leave even the most refined connoisseur impressed.

Other alcoholic drinks commonly served consist of cognac, champagne and vodka. Vodka is one of the strongest drinks available and is better when consumed with food and good company.

Food and drink in the Ukraine is an experience in itself especially when shared with the hospitable people that make up this wonderful area.
